Up until now the Google Maps Platform APIs has been a free service based on basic usage of their maps within your website design. A recent announcement has seen changes to pricing, support and products now available within the Platform - https://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/user-guide/
In addition, Google Maps API now requires all customers to enable billing on their maps accounts so if they go over the $200 of free monthly usage, they can be automatically billed which ensures less downtime and performance issues of their software.
These settings take effect on June 11, 2018.
For most of our clients, based on their project usage and the new pricing plan, Google estimates that the monthly cost will fall under the $200/month free credit and therefore no additional costs will be charged.
All new Maps API accounts will need to be setup within our clients Google Accounts with their own billing details included to ensure complete transparency of usage moving forward. For other clients that have this enabled on their site, we will contact you to discuss the best way to move forward with this setup.
If you have any queries about the new Google Maps API please don’t hesitate in contacting us.
