    What is a Sitemap?

Sitemaps are a SEO ranking factor for your site. There are two types of Sitemaps that help visitors and search engines find all the individual pages within your site, like a 'table of contents' within a book - an HTML and XML version. Both are vital for your website

This lists all pages within your site including pages within secure zones, dynamically created and more hidden links. Each page name is then linked to the actual page and contains keyword rich, descriptive anchor text in the links.

This is designed to help visitors navigate your site easily and a link to this page is normally found within the footer incase visitors get lost or can't find what they are looking for.

Again, lists all pages but often contains other material such as video, images, news and source code. You can add the location of the page, the date your page was last updated, the frequency which you change content on page and assign levels or priority to each page within your site with 0 being the least, 0.5 being the middle and 1.0 being the highest (kept for the homepage).

This is designed specifically for Search Engines to help them navigate through all your site content effectively, know which pages to access regularly and what pages are more important than others.

Sitemap.xml files are hosted on your server and then we load them onto Google and Bing/Yahoo and reference it within your robots.txt file. The search engines do not guarantee that they will crawl or index all of your urls however they use the information to learn about your sites structure to improve their crawler schedule and accessibility.

With Adobe Business Catalyst, your sitemap.html and sitemap.xml files are generated for you and you can then modify and tweak them as you need to. Talk to us about how a Sitemap can help insure your site against being lost in translation.
